Truly Great Coffee

Coffee

With the growing coffee culture, coffee shops are becoming the new hot spot for people to hang out. These days, coffee shops are beyond the cafes that you would typically visit. An ideal coffee shop will be much more than merely serving the perfect espresso shot. When you visit a coffee shop, it is not just about the coffee you get there; it is about the entire experience. A lot of coffee shops have gone the extra mile to enhance the ambience and service.

A coffee shop can be so much- a quick stop before you go to work or a place to socialise. The aesthetically appealing ambience and good quality coffee is something that can create a positive experience for anyone who visits. When we talk about coffee shops, the first thing we would associate with the coffee aroma. Apart from the smell, we also like to get our hands on some baked items. One good reason why we would visit a particular coffee shop can be hygiene and cleanliness. When everything is organised and well kept, it sets a good impression of the cafe and makes us want to revisit it.

Good coffee matters the most

No matter how great ambiance is, if the coffee served is not up to the mark, then you wouldn't want to revisit the coffee bar. There is nothing like a place that serves a properly brewed cup of coffee that is made just as you like. Good quality coffee means coffee that is brewed perfectly with fresh beans and extracted at the right temperature and degree. The first reason we visit a coffee bar is because of the coffee that is served there if the coffee is too good then no matter how cute the cafe is, you wouldn't want to go there again.

Baristas that know what they're doing

A lot of people are very particular about their coffee. If you like your coffee in a specific manner, then make sure that you visit the cafe that has a team of baristas who are good at what they do. An experienced team of baristas will know how much brewing is required for that perfect cup of latte. Skilled baristas will also have extensive knowledge of coffee art. Let us all admit that a cup of coffee with some coffee art tastes better! When the coffee is strong, dark and stormy- you will want to thank the baristas.

Why Ethical Coffee Matters

Ethical procurement underpins every decision we make to ensure we are practising what we preach. Our customers value this approach and are like-minded in the way that things should be done, but for our working relationships to be effective it is essential that our customers understand exactly what we mean by ‘ethical coffee’.

Despite huge growth and interest in responsible consumer habits, it seems that now more than ever we have greater confusion about what this phrase really means. Given the rise of various certification schemes and approaches along with the complexities of true sustainability, this is totally understandable.

There is a problem with this though when consumers end up standing by certain certification schemes or logos when in many cases these systems do not work for the producer and they may benefit more from a different approach. My own dissertation at university along with a recent article published by The Guardian discussed this very possibility in regard to the impact of Fairtrade on the rural poor.

With coffee shop culture in the UK doubling over the past decade (Allegra Strategies 2017) versus a decline in the number of producers growing coffee, it seems vital to me that we all understand the many factors that need to be taken into account to help guarantee the longevity of our industry.
